Job description

 

As  a consumer Communications Manager & Spokesperson for Thomas Cook Belgium, you act as the central spokesperson for Thomas Cook Belgium and are responsible for developing, implementing and realizing the Product Public Relations and also implement the given Group Corporate Communication strategy for our organization.

 

 

  •  You act as the central Communications Manager and spokesperson for Thomas Cook Belgium and the 3 brands (Thomas Cook, Neckermann and Pegase).
  • You act as the primary contact for all media for Thomas Cook Belgium and its 3 brands.
  • You monitor coverage Thomas Cook and its competitors across the media. You create and ensure balance in press coverage for our brands, with a focus on the hero brand of Neckermann and our own branded hotels.
  • You approve all press and social media messages.
  • You respond to media inquiries regarding Thomas Cook Belgium, working closely where necessary with colleagues from all departments.
  • You advise the Managing Director, directors and management with regard to the overall external position of Thomas Cook Belgium
  • You are available for media (24h/7d).

 

  • You are responsible for developing and implementing a focused and effective consumer brand communications strategy based around those areas of differentiation for Thomas Cook Belgium

 

  • You proactively look for opportunities to deliver bold and creative consumer communications around our products and brands, working closely with Marketing, to drive reappraisal of Thomas Cook Belgium and the quality of our holiday offering.
  • You align with the Group communications team to execute groupwide campaigns around Thomas Cook’s own-brand hotels and resorts and our innovative new services in Belgium, adapting them where necessary for the local market.
  • You focus all brand communication campaigns on Neckermann as the hero brand
  • You develop, organize and maintain relationships with authorities, politicians, pressure groups and professional associations.
  • You work closely with Group communications and particularly the Head of Communications for Continental Europe to coordinate and all corporate communications within the group, aligning on all areas that are core to our strategy for profitable growth.

 

 

  • You develop, organize and maintain relationships with the B2C and B2B media, in order to optimize the image of Thomas Cook Belgium.
  • You lead communication with all media, focusing always on the own branded hotel portfolio (Thomas Cook Hotels and Resorts) and the things that make us different to the competition.
  • You establish and maintain contacts with the main editors of audio-visual and written media to position Thomas Cook Belgium as a leading voice in the Belgian travel industry.
  • You prepare, organise and host press conferences around key areas of focus for the business.
  • You monitor the presence of Thomas Cook Belgium and its brands in all media and make adjustments when and where necessary.
  • You attend and organise press trips for all brands and arrange attribution of destinations.
  • You adapt press releases and comms material from Group Communications on strategic initiatives and innovation and about Thomas Cook Hotels and Resorts

 

  • You coordinate crisis communication for Thomas Cook Belgium
  • You act as a central crisis spokesperson for Thomas Cook Belgium, permanently available (24/7) and responsible for all media.
  • Along with the Crisis Manager, you advise management and relevant departments about crisis and pressure sensitive topics so that consistent communication is guaranteed across all channels.
  • You formulate the official position of Thomas Cook Belgium, in consultation with the Managing Director and his management team.
  • You acquire external sources that can facilitate reliable information.
  • At all times you try to mitigate the impact of a crisis for the organization and its 3 brands.

 

 

  • You manage Internal Communications in a dynamic and enthusiastic manner, ensuring focus on those projects that drive change and transformation across the organisation

 

  • You report into the Managing Director of Thomas Cook Belgium in solid line and dotted line into the Head of Communications Continental Europe as part of the Group Comms Team.

 

 

Profile

 

  • You hold a Master’s degree, preferably in Communications.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in press communications, specialized in consumer PR and you are also experienced in  crisis communication.
  • You have excellent contacts to relevant media.
  • You have the ability to work in a Matrix structure as Part of the Communications team in Continental Europe and the Thomas Cook Group.
  • You have excellent communication skills both in speaking (on and off camera) and writing.
  • You are charismatic and authentic, you have an enthusiastic and lively personality. You know when to be diplomatic and discrete. You communicate easily on all levels.
  • You have solid strategic insights and are able to translate complex content into short and clear messages.  
  • You are a team player with a strong ability to work broadly across the business.
  • You have a keen interest in social media.
  • You have a passion for travel and tourism, a keen interest in retail and a heart for customer focused business.
  • You are bilingual Dutch-French (in speaking and writing), with an excellent knowledge of the English language.
  • You are willing and able to be available for media 24/7 (including during weekends and outside office hours).
  • You are open to occasional international travel.
