IT Linux Engineer




Job description


As Linux Engineer, you are administering all IT infrastructure running on Linux. You are responsible for maintaining/setting up proactive monitoring, patch management, standardization, documenting, backup/restore,…  With your vast technical experience you will guide our technical community towards a more DevOps oriented way of working.  You will be working with both technical and non-technical internal-, near-shore- or external supplier teams to deliver a high standard service to our business. 

  • You are responsible for the day to day management of the Linux estate.
  • You will be participating in projects like datacenter remediation/migrations.
  • Backup/Disaster Recovery hold no secrets for you.
  • Technologies such as Apache / Tomcat / Liferay / IBM MQ /HornetQ /Rabbit MQ / Oracle / MySQL / NoSQL / Kubernetics / Kibana /… are well known to you.
  • You have a keen interest in eg. MS Windows oriented  technologies, Network, Mail Relays, Telephony Systems (preferably Avaya), …
  • You engage with the various experts (SME’s and Architects) within the local team as well as on the group level. You will represent the Belgian operations Linux skills within the group operations collaborative groups.
  • You drive for project delivery urging for simplicity (keep it simple), stability and standardization in all our activities.
  • You drive innovation within our landscape.



  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s  degree (preferably technology oriented).
  • You have vast knowledge of RedHat, Suse Enterprise Linux, CentOS.
  • You understand DevOps and have a proven track record of working in/setting up DevOps to an organization.
  • You understand datacenters and virtual infrastructure best practices.
  • You are confident in building strong relationships and have the ability to influence at a senior technical level.
  • You are well organized, work proactively and have a strong “can do” attitude and you can work independent.
  • ITIL Foundations Certification is a plus.
  • You have excellent communication skills and you communicate fluently in Dutch and English. Conversational French and/or German is an asset.
  • You are stress resistant and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Experience in an international (matrix) organization is a plus.
  • You are flexible to travel.
  • You are able to work in an on-call rotation.
