For the Legal Team Continental Europe we are looking for the

 

Deputy Head of Legal – Central Europe (m/f/d)

based in Oberursel

 

Job purpose: Reporting to the Head of Legal – Continental Europe, the Deputy Head of Legal – Central Europe holds a senior legal position for the Central and Continental Europe legal teams. The role is responsible for all legal aspects of the German Tour Operator and supports the Head of Legal Central Europe in all legal matters and his management of the Central Europe legal team. Additionally, the role supports the Head of Legal Continental Europe in various matters, including strategic projects. For all tasks, the role assumes responsibility and ownership and to a large extent is required to independently lead the matters. All tasks are performed to support the business’ strategy for profitable growth and Thomas Cook’s mission to put the customer at its heart.

 

Key accountabilities and decision ownership :

  • Act as key legal advisor to the Central Europe leadership team providing commercial and strategic advice.
  • Draft/review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts.
  • Manage litigation matters, working with external legal counsel to determine strategy/tactics and ensure that cases are properly and appropriately prosecuted or defended to protect relevant rights and assets, driving demonstrable cost savings.
  • Act as deputy to the Head of Legal Central Europe supporting him in all aspects of his role, including the management of the Central Europe legal team and the development and on-going management of an efficient and effective legal structure while assuming ownership and responsibility for these tasks.
  • Take a senior legal and commercial role in respect of other strategic initiatives, projects and assignments and lead these projects as determined from time to time by the Head of Legal Continental Europe.

 

Skills, know-how and experience:

Must have:

 

  • German qualified lawyer with several years post-qualification experience, having trained and/or worked in a top tier law firm.
  • Excellent academic record.
  • Proven leadership roles in respect of legal matters within a law firm and/or company.
  • Analytically astute and demonstrates an understanding of how one issue may be part of a much larger system; identifies common themes across multiple issues and moves to resolve, handling situations and problems with innovation and creativity.
  • Combines excellent technical legal knowledge with a keen commercial focus and practical judgement.
  • Adept in combining compliance and risk management requirements with delivery of an ambitious business transformation agenda.
  • Demonstrates financial awareness, controls cost and thinks in terms of profit, loss and added value.
  • Resilient and able to work at considerable pace.
  • Focuses on customer satisfaction and delivers high quality legal service to the business segments/markets.
  • A true team player, able to work with a variety of personalities and manage peers and stakeholders.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with the travel industry and/or strong brands in consumer goods/services.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of legal practice areas.
