Global Category Manager Indirect Spend (m/f/d)

full-time, based in Oberursel


Key responsibilities:
You will be managing a number of highly complex, strategic procurement projects for Thomas Cook Group. You will need to use your skill and knowledge to maximise cost performance and efficiencies. Your ability to communicate and influence at all levels, throughout our global organisation, needs to be of the highest level. Your key strategic stakeholders include Thomas Cook business leaders across Europe with whom you will share your knowledge, experience and expertise around best practice. You will manage existing and potential new suppliers relationships for goods and services. With some services currently outsourced, you will work with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities and analysis the benefits of insource versus outsource for some services.


  • Develop, implement and lead strategic sourcing plans for Global Indirect expenditure consistent with Thomas Cook Group’s Procurement policy and business requirements.
  • Keep updated in relation to relevant management and procurement techniques as well as anticipating developments within relevant supply markets to enable the development of strategic sourcing plans and development of the Group Procurement function.
  • Ensure acceptable practices are achieved or exceeded in the procurement of the designated goods and services and ensure delivery of breakthrough results.
  • Plan and lead negotiations which are of significant impact to the business, with in-depth legal and senior business management participation.
  • Proactively manage relationships with strategic suppliers to deliver required performance and continuous improvement.
  • Execute market and competition analyses, benchmark of goods and services.
  • Lead group category initiatives and interdisciplinary sourcing teams; manage complex, high value global sourcing projects for the area of Indirect Spend such as Professional Services, HR, Finance and Insurance/Legal topics.
  • Collaborate with key business stakeholders in the group and/ or within local subsidiaries.
  • Ensure market information is up to date to enable competitive analysis and enable the development of risk management and mitigation plans for the Global Procurement Category.


Skills, know-how and experience:

  • Degree/or equivalent standard of education, ideally within Procurement.
  • Extensive strategic procurement and supplier relationship management experience in the area of Indirect Spend such as Professional Services, HR, Finance and Insurance/Legal topics.
  • Highly motivated, confident and credible.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal/-cultural, influencing and communication skills.
  • Track record of strategic results delivery under pressure.
  • Track record of successfully leading a procurement and/ or project team including project management and organisational skills.
  • Financially literate – able to create and manage budgets, able to understand profit and loss accounts and balance sheets.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • High level of ‘ownership’ with an ability to think outside the box, innovate and constructively challenge the status quo.
  • Business fluent in English
  • Legal knowledge beneficial
