IT Procurement Manager (m/f/d)


Job purpose: Occupying a senior position in the Group Procurement team, you will need to develop an in-depth understanding of our business and our IT suppliers. You will need to use your skill and knowledge to maximise cost performance and efficiencies.  Your ability to communicate and influence at all levels, throughout our global organisation, needs to be of the highest level.  You will report to the IT Procurement Director, managing a number of highly complex, strategic procurement projects for Thomas Cook Group.  Your key strategic stakeholders include Thomas Cook business leaders in Germany and other locations across Europe with whom you will share your knowledge, experience and expertise around best practice.  You will manage existing and potential new supplier relationships for goods and services. With some services currently outsourced, you will work with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities and analysis the benefits of insource versus outsource for some services.

Your projects will have a high level of complexity and you will be required to map and redesign processes by applying the lean methodology.  We are looking for you to profile  current and future spend, conduct in-depth analysis of the cost base, scan the market, challenge the status quo, manage the supply base and look at how the provided services can be sourced, more efficiently and effectively.


Key accountabilities:

  • Develop, implement and lead strategic sourcing plans for IT expenditure across Thomas Cook Group that address key business requirements and optimising group synergies using best practice procurement activity that is consistent with Thomas Cook Group’s Procurement strategy, standards, tools, procedures.
  • Develop, implement and drive innovative procurement solutions to address business requirements and challenges whilst maximising value and ensuring delivery of breakthrough results.
  • Leadership and management of complex, high value global sourcing initiatives for IT including complex negotiations which are of significant impact to the business, with in-depth legal and senior business management participation
  • Drive collaboration and engagement with key business stakeholders in the group and/ or within Germany ensuring the procurement strategy supports and addresses their key department objectives and challenges ensuring that the procurement agenda is a key part of their department strategy
  • Develop and manage relationships with strategic suppliers, understanding contractual requirements and supplier business strategies ensuring effective supplier and contract management to drive the maximum value from the supply base
  • Ensure market information is up to date to enable competitive analysis and enable the development of risk management and mitigation plans for IT



Skills, know-how and experience:

  • Degree/or equivalent standard of education, ideally within the Procurement arena
  • Extensive strategic procurement and supplier relationship management experience in IT
  • Track record of strategic results delivery under pressure
  • Financially literate – able to create and manage budgets, able to understand profit and loss accounts, balance sheets and the impact of cash flow
  • Strong supplier management skills and a high level of ability to negotiate and influence at all levels
  • High level of ‘ownership’ with an ability to think outside the box, innovate and constructively challenge the status quo
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and see the wider holistic picture developing innovative solutions to business problems weighing up cost versus risk.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills managing stakeholders at all levels across the Thomas Cook Group and the ability to market the services provided by procurement
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels. Highly motivated, confident, credible and trustworthy with a strong sense of integrity
  • Business fluent in written and spoken German and English language
